Introduction

Items are where Poly Loot puts all of its randomness. Every monster you kill rolls loot, and that roll carries both a rarity and — for gear — a tier, which is why two players farming the same spot at the same level can walk away with completely different results. The rarity ladder runs from common drops up through Rare, Epic and Legendary, with a Z Tier on top that the game itself defines through a badge condition of roughly one in ten thousand. Underneath it sits the material economy: mining produces Shards in Rare, Epic and Legendary grades, and those Shards are what tier upgrades are built from. Item Crates add another layer, and enchantments modify whatever you have already equipped. This category covers how each piece fits together and, more importantly, which of the three purchasable luck passes actually changes the outcome you care about.

Loot Systems Breakdown

S

Z Tier Roll

legendary

Roughly one in ten thousand

Why It MattersThe game attaches a badge to rolling Z Tier, which makes it the only rarity outcome with an official number behind it
How To ChaseTier Luck is the pass that biases the tier on items you receive, which is the layer this outcome lives on
ExpectationTreat it as a milestone rather than a target; very few accounts have the badge
Common MistakeBuying every luck pass at once and spreading the benefit across three layers instead of fixing the one that is actually limiting the run.

Rarity Tiers

epic

Rare, Epic, Legendary and the space above

Why It MattersRarity is the first filter on any drop, and it decides whether an item is worth upgrading or vendoring
How To Read ItRare is the floor for investment, Epic is the scroll-reward band, Legendary is what endgame builds are measured against
NoteDrop Luck is the pass that improves the quality band of what appears on the floor
Common MistakeVendoring Rare drops early because the tier feels low, when Rare is precisely the point where upgrade materials stop being wasted.

Shards

rare

Mining output in three grades

Why It MattersShards are what tier upgrades are built from, which makes them the material that turns time spent mining into weapon progress
How To Get ThemMining is the main source, and community reports put them at Rare, Epic and Legendary grades matching the gear rarity ladder
NoteThe retired MINING code handed out all three grades, which shows how much value sits in them
Common MistakeAssuming a crate or Shard description from a third-party site is an official drop table, when almost none of this is published by the game.
B

Item Crates

new

Rewards packaged into a single container

Why It MattersCrates concentrate a set of rewards into one open, and they appeared in earlier update reward pools
How They ArriveMostly through update rewards rather than ordinary drops, so they track the game release cadence
NoteCommunity sources describe crate contents more reliably than the game does
Common MistakeChasing Z Tier rolls before the account can farm comfortably, which spends luck passes on a layer the rest of the build cannot support yet.
A

Enchantments

epic

Stacked on top of the tier you already have

Why It MattersEnchantments modify gear you have committed to, so they add behaviour without resetting the tier investment underneath
How To Use ThemA well-enchanted lower tier item can outperform a bare higher tier one in a specific fight, which makes them a build tool rather than a stat bonus
NoteThey are the last layer applied, so decide the tier first and the enchantment second
Common MistakeStacking enchantments on gear that is about to be replaced, so the enchantment investment disappears with the item.
A

Three Luck Passes

active

Quantity, quality and tier — all separate

Why It MattersDrop Luck, Tier Luck and Extra Item Drop each change a different part of the same roll, so stacking them without knowing your bottleneck wastes money
PriorityQuantity and quality first while your gear is still low tier; Tier Luck once you are regularly seeing high rarity drops
NoteNo pass changes the underlying drop rate, so an unlucky account can still see no improvement
Common MistakeJudging a farming session only by what dropped, when the Shards produced along the way are the part that always makes progress.

Core Mechanics

A single kill in Poly Loot produces a roll, and that roll is where every item system intersects. Whether anything drops at all, how many things drop, what rarity each one is and which tier a piece of gear lands on are separate outcomes, and the three luck game passes each target a different one. Drop Luck changes the quality of what appears, Extra Item Drop changes the quantity, and Tier Luck changes the tier rolled on the gear you end up with. Over the top of that sits the material economy: mining produces Shards in three grades, Shards feed tier upgrades, and Item Crates repackage rewards into a single container. Enchantments are the last layer, applied to gear you have already committed to and stacked on whatever tier it reached. Understanding which layer is currently limiting you is the difference between productive farming and expensive frustration.

Advantages

Poly Loot loot design gives players real levers rather than a single luck stat. Splitting randomness into quantity, quality and tier means a player can identify their actual bottleneck and buy the pass that addresses it, instead of hoping a generic luck bonus helps. The Z Tier badge is also a smart piece of design: by attaching an achievement to a one in ten thousand outcome, the game turns its rarest roll into a visible community milestone rather than an invisible statistic. Shards give the randomness a floor — even a bad run of drops produces mining materials that push an existing weapon forward, so no session is completely wasted. And because enchantments modify gear rather than replacing it, a good roll stays relevant across several updates.

Challenges

The biggest problem with the loot system is that almost none of it is documented in game. Drop rates are not published, the Z Tier badge is the only official number available, and the exact contribution of each luck pass is left for players to infer. That makes purchase decisions genuinely hard to reason about, and it means a player can buy Tier Luck while their real problem was the number of drops they were getting. There is also no way to evaluate a roll before committing to it, so materials get spent on gear that is replaced an hour later. Finally, crates and Shards are described in community sources more often than in the game itself, so any list of what they contain should be treated as observed behaviour rather than a guarantee.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the odds of a Z Tier drop?+
The game states it through its badge condition: rolling a Z Tier on an item is roughly a one in ten thousand chance. Because that figure comes from the game own achievement text rather than a published drop table, it is the most reliable rarity number available for any tier. Practically, it means Z Tier is a long-term outcome rather than a farming target, and Tier Luck is the pass that speaks to it most directly, since it biases which tier an item rolls rather than how many items you get.
What are Shards used for?+
Shards are the material behind tier upgrades, and they come in three grades: Rare, Epic and Legendary. Mining is their main source, and the retired MINING code used to hand out all three grades at once, which is a good illustration of how valuable they are relative to coins. Because tier upgrades are the only way to push an item past its rolled ceiling, Shards are effectively the currency that converts time into weapon progress, and running mining routes alongside other objectives is the cheapest way to keep a supply on hand.
Which luck game pass should I buy first?+
It depends on your bottleneck. If you are still replacing common gear, Extra Item Drop and Drop Luck matter most, because the problem is the volume and quality of what appears rather than how high a roll lands. Once you are regularly seeing Epic and Legendary drops, Tier Luck becomes the pass that decides whether a session produced something worth keeping, since it biases the tier on the items you receive. Buying all three at once spreads the benefit across layers instead of fixing the one that is actually holding you back.

Quick Tips

💡

Work out which layer is limiting you before buying a luck pass. Volume, quality and tier are three different rolls, and a pass aimed at the wrong one produces no visible change. If you are not seeing enough drops, the answer is quantity; if you are seeing drops you cannot use, the answer is tier.

💡

Treat community-reported numbers as observed behaviour rather than published data. Poly Loot does not publish drop tables, so every reward figure you read — including the ones on this site — comes from players watching their own results. That is good enough for planning, but it is not a guarantee.

💡

Let mining cover the bad luck. Even a session with no usable drops produces Shards, and Shards push the weapon you already own toward a higher tier. Routing mining into your normal farming loop means you make progress on upgrade materials regardless of what the loot roll decides to give you.
